Unlike the usual talent performances, the 24-year-old aspirant walked the stage in a lab coat and goggles and performed a live demonstration of the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. She carefully mixed the chemical solutions in a beaker and lit the stage with a beautiful explosion of orange and blue foam. She chose to perform a science experiment as her talent because she wanted to spread awareness about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. Her aim to encourage women to pursue science and engineering as a career choice. Ms. Schrier is currently pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. She will now be representing Virginia in the nationwide competition, ‘Miss America 2.0.’ she is the first beauty pageant aspirant to hold a dual Bachelor of Science degrees from Virginia Tech in Biochemistry and Systems Biology and makes a strong candidate for the first of its kind, Miss America 2.0. With her carving a niche for herself, she aims to motivate highest levels of scientific research. We sincerely hope that she is able to inspire and encourage young girls to pursue science.
