Bollywood Actor SonuSood made headlines during the pandemic not for his upcoming film projects but rather for helping hundreds of migrant workers across the country.
From A Celluloid Star to Being Real Life Hero
His humanitarian efforts and contributions during the pandemic earned him the title of a Real Life hero by his many admirers. But, as the global health crisis and COVID-19 risk is far from over, the Indian Actor received the award at a virtual ceremony on Monday. He helped several stranded migrants during the COVID-19 lockdown by arranging food and transport and even helped some with finding job opportunities to sustain livelihood. He also made efforts to arrange for safe shelters for several Mumbaikars ahead of the Nisarga cyclone that had hit Maharashtra coasts earlier in July this year. Notably, he also launched a toll-free number to offer assistance to the needy during the COVID-19 crisis and even went ahead to offered his own hotel in Mumbai for medical professionals to stay in.He was also quick to reach out his fellow colleagues and lesser known Bollywood professionals and artists as some posted on social media asking for financial help.
Priyanka Chopra also joins Twitter to congratulate Sood
Priyanka Chopra who herself had received the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award in the year 2019 for her contributions as the UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights also took to Twitter to congratulate her Bollywood colleague. SonuSood is a known name in the Indian Film industry and has acted in a number of Telugu and Tamil films as well besides several Bollywood movies including Dabangg, Yuva, Jodhaa Akbar, Shootout At Wadala and Happy New Year. However, NDTV reported that UNDP said in its statement on the award given to SonuSood that the ‘Special Humanitarian Action Award’ given to Mr SonuSood was conferred on him by the Department of Planning of the Government of Punjab with the support of the Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre. The public statement further added, “The awardees were selected based on the recommendation of an independent jury and the UNDP was not involved in the selection nor in the conferring of the award to Mr SonuSood.
